Our History

Women Owned Media and Education Network was initiated out of the passion of its two co-founders Lucia Cabrera-Jones and Jayme Hoyte.

They have known each other for 9 years and have worked separately on many projects for the empowerment of women.

At the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020, the labour participation rate in women declined by 10.3%. This was a cause for more initiatives, geared toward the development of women, and where the initial conversation started.

This idea of creating a platform for women became a reality when both founders decided to join efforts in May 2022 by creating W.O.M.E.N – Women-Owned Media and Education Network. Today, the organization is a fully incorporated NGO under the Act of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago 2019.

The aim is to provide support, capacity building, advocate for equality, and promote fellowship and diversity.
