The EatSmart – Feed Them Nature’s Greens Project, launched on April 1, 2024, and completed on April 28, 2024, successfully established innovative smart kitchen gardens in two children’s homes—one in Trinidad and another in Tobago.

This initiative, sponsored by @iomportofspain aimed at addressing the dietary needs of the children and promoting sustainable living practices through the installation of hydroponic systems utilizing grow bags.

Each home was equipped with setups to cultivate various hydroponic vegetables and seasonings, such as sweet peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, chive, cucumbers, Patchoi and okra. Apart from the crops, individuals were also equipped with the knowledge of how to sustainably setup, plant, water and administer nutrients to the plants.

The EatSmart – Feed Them Nature’s Greens Project, launched on April 1, 2024, and completed on April 28, 2024, is now moving into its maintenance phase, with two crop cycles remaining to be harvested.

This ongoing process will continue to promote self-sufficiency and healthy eating habits among the children, thereby contributing significantly to their nutritional well-being and education in sustainable practices.

WOMEN and La Casita HCC Partner with UWI Students to Launch Bilingual Resume Generator

In a groundbreaking initiative to bridge the language gap for Spanish-speaking job seekers in Trinidad and Tobago, WOMEN and La Casita Hispanic Cultural Centre (La Casita HCC) have partnered with second-year students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UWI St. Augustine to develop EmpleaTT, a Bilingual Voice-Powered Resume Generator.

The website, officially launched today at La Casita’s headquarters in Arima, introduces a powerful tool designed to assist Spanish-speaking persons in creating professional resumes in either English or Spanish. Users can dictate their information using voice recognition technology or manually input details, ensuring accessibility for all.

Lucia Cabrera Jones, Founder and CEO of WOMEN, played a pivotal role in the project, not only through her leadership at WOMEN but also as a faculty member attached to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UWI. Recognizing her expertise, the department assigned her as the official supervisor of the project, guiding students in the development of this impactful solution through feedback.

“This initiative represents a significant step forward in fostering inclusivity in Trinidad and Tobago’s workforce,” said Cabrera Jones. “By breaking language barriers, we are empowering job seekers and enhancing their employment opportunities.”

EmpleaTT stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between academia, technology, and community-driven organizations, marking another milestone in WOMEN’s ongoing mission to uplift and support underrepresented communities
